California voters granted NEW RIGHTS to FARM ANIMALS whilst simultaneously making sure gay folks had NONE.
Proposition 2 (for those not in the know on CA voting) requires that veal, egg laying hens and and pregnant pigs be confined only in ways that allow them fulll mobility etc etc.....All fine and dandy of course. Voted through with almost 65%. (What happened to the other 35%?) Prop 8 as you all know changes the state's constitution to eliminate same sex couple's right right to marry by a nice and plump 53%.
So, what does this mean??!? Oddly, some folks voted FOR Prop 2 while voting FOR Prop 8 as well. They walked into the polling booth and on some level said to themselves, "Yes, I am worried about the rights of chickens but not the rights of gay people."
You know what? Chickens ARE NOT PEOPLE TOO. Sorry PETA people, but this is utter bullshit. It may seem odd to make this comparison but I think it bears a closer look. You might THINK chickens deserve the same consideration as people (and you have that perogative as a US citizen in a supposedly free country) but think about it.
Gay people have been shoved to a place lower than farm animals. Sweet.

update! the veto has been overturned and Nevada just passed it in the Assembly.
